Chad OVERVIEW
There are quite a couple of reasons explaining why not many visitors make it to Chad. Once a part of French Equatorial Africa, Chad is a country landlocked in the heart of northern Africa which has suffered a fair share of turmoil and instability. After its independence from France in 1960, the land has been an arena of tensions resulting from religious and cultural divisions between the Muslim north and Christian south as well as decades of civil warfare and invasions by the neighboring Libya. No wonder the country has long been seen as a place to get through rather than visit and spend holiday money. But Chad is surely not a place to steer away from and it does have a pack of drawing cards to play. Venture a visit and your travel experiences will get enriched with serene boat rides on one of the world's largest freshwater reservoirs, Lake Chad, scenic views of the verdant national parks like Zakouma, barren extraterrestrial desert landscapes of Ennedi and the majestic volcanic Tibesti Mountains. The country's capital, N'Djamena is yet another stop that should be put on any Chad itinerary. This friendly city brimming with laidback atmosphere and a vibrant local jostle at the Central Market is a portion of a really filling fun. Definitely not a comfortable mass tourism destination, Chad is a land of staggering beauty for the hard-wearing traveler.
