Malawi OVERVIEW
OK so here we go. Imagine a sizzling hot African day when every single move and step you take only make things hotter and all you dream about is a cooling shade and water to plunge into and let your fins grow. But no, there are holiday must-sees and must-dos and you paid through your nose to experience your African dream so keep going. But why not blend it all into an idyllic African summer cocktail and go "splash! splash! splash!" having a good deal of water fun and then a loud "roar!" on the sun-baked safari? There is a place which lives up to this and much more of the glossy brochure pitch. It's called Malawi.
So to get that water part of your holiday head for the Malawi Lake. You won't need a map and you can also put your GPS gadgetry in the glove box before it melts in the blazing sun. The lake is huge and missing its 500-kilometer freshwater span along the country's eastern border requires some skill. It has all you need to let your skin get covered with scales like excellent scuba diving and snorkeling sites and water so crystal clear any kind of water sports is quality time here. Add to it the scenic backdrop of towering mountains and you suddenly reach a calming state of holiday nirvana.
And now comes the roaring wildlife part of Malawi picture. This rather small African country is blessed with not less than nine national parks to pamper with rare fauna and flora thriving in the most unspoiled of settings. No tarred roads with convoys of tourists and traffic jams at Rhino Street or Lofty Giraffe Avenue. Trek freely throughout the best known Liwonde National Park or choose the less frequented Vwasa Reserve, Majete or Mwabvi. For an extra bonus steer towards the misty massif of Mount Mulanje rising sharply from the tea-growing green expanse and don't miss out the human bit for there are solid grounds for Malawi's hype as "the warm heart of Africa".
