Designed to sleep: the most stylish hotels in Europe

A night in one of these hotels compensates for a month of wandering around art galleries. The stylish hotels of Europe are like great design exhibitions featuring the freshest trends, immortal art and chic solutions. Below I present a list, based on a personal sense of taste, of my favorites.

Spain, Olot, near Barcelona

The five rooms of

Les Cols Pavellones

have no beds, no furniture, no phone, no television - just a lounging mat. The suites are totally transparent - made of glass and black steel. Through the crystal walls guests can watch the earth beneath, the sky above, and the nature around. Pure uniqueness.

France, Paris

Mama Shelter

was designed by Philppe Starck so it must be as stylish as possible. Here everything is chic from five star bedding (including 100% cotton satiny smooth sheets), minibar, 24 inch IMAC  to an office where you can work or write a love letter...in the end you are in Paris.

Denmark, Copenhagen

Hotel Fox

is one of the craziest and funkiest hotels I’ve ever seen. Each room is an individual piece of art created by 21 artists. You can choose the room which is the closet to your sense of art and individuality. The walls and the interiors are of various styles from strict graphics, wacky comical patterns, kitsch pictures, to Japanese Manga.

Germany, Frankfurt

The Pure

in three words would be whiteness, clearness and minimalism. The concept of the hotel is a “space without borders” as lobby, breakfast room, bar and lounge all flow into one large area.

The UK, London

Rough Luxe Hotel

is half rough, half luxury. Designer Rabih Hage left the original distressed walls enriching the interiors with old and new furniture and accessories. In Rough Luxe the concept of luxury is a bit different...luxury should be an enriching personal experience and not simply the ownership or utilisation of an expensive object.  That’s why the guests might share the bathroom but the luxury is in the choice of the wine, the bed linen, the art on the walls and the people looking after you.

Poland, Lodz

Andel’s: I will risk the statement that this is the only 100% design hotel in Poland. It is set in a former textile mill, next to the huge shopping centre which also emerged on the industrial site of former factories. The touch of history reflected in brick walls, steel pillars and huge pieces of old machines, is perfectly combine with the modern interiors of delicate colours and stylish furniture. A piece of art.

The selections of my favourite design hotels of North and South Americas as well as Asia are coming soon. So keep checking the site.
