Angola OVERVIEW
After decades of civil war, Angola is gradually re-emerging and picking up the pieces to reconstruct its painfully scarred body. Years of debilitating conflicts between the ruling elite and separatists have led the country to overrunning poverty, inbred corruption and a seriously devastated infrastructure. But with the recently embarked monumental tasks of rebuilding, there's finally some brighter light shining for Angola.
The country is surely a brilliant yet to be cut into a gleaming jewel. Dense forests, elevated plains and tumbling rivers characterize the country's landscape - along with the sands of the Namibe desert. The list of potential attractions includes vast sun-drowned beaches to chill out, virgin wildlife parks to explore and numerous remains of Portuguese colonialism whose flavor and nuances add to the country's intricate lure.
Hopefully, with the advancements in infrastructure and the transport network gradually recovering, a dramatically improved security condition and wildlife being shipped in to re-populate decimated national reserves, the country will soon open not only to adventurous travelers. Fueled with oil and diamond revenue, Angola might soon be ready with tourist and travel opportunities to go for widely.
And there is quite much to look into. Luanda, Angola's capital city, has been undergoing a massive construction boom with the slums and rundown parts being replaced with housing highrises and six-lane highways. The tranquil towns of Lobito and Benguela shall provide some respite on your itinerary and so will Lubango, offering magnificent scenery and quiet surroundings. If you ever venture a visit, put the Kissama National Park on your list of must-sees, too. The country's gracious people are indisputably yet another ‘tick' on Angola's positive and appealing side.
