Turks and Caicos Islands Travel Guide

Turks and Caicos Islands

Turks and Caicos Islands OVERVIEW

Here's the whole truth about the Hollywood elite, in huge simplification: they choose paparazzi ridden glossy resorts of St Barthélemy for their Caribbean vacation and disguise themselves behind the "hope they're big enough for everyone to see me" kind of glasses, but they're desperate to buy property on Turks and Caicos. Why?

Perhaps for the heavenly tranquility of Malcolm Beach, the softest white sands you can imagine to be found in Grace Bay, or the plummeting wall of coral off South Caicos. It may well be because of the humpback whale migrating through the Turks Head passage every year from January through April, or wild donkeys and iguanas far outnumbering human inhabitants on adorable Salt Cay. Bermudan British colonial architecture amidst the colorful, Caribbean-style local dwellings of Grand Turk are a throwback in time and yet another reason. For foodies and romantics it is certainly the Coco Bistro Restaurant, where guests dine under a lining of lighted palm trees, that makes the deciding factor. Or maybe it's about the true sense of space, quiet, and sheer freedom that you get on Middle Caicos.

And there's this heart-melting potcake thing. As the feral dog population is growing here rapidly, an organization has been set up to rescue startling numbers of stray cuties from around the island and find them a foster home. This made Turks and Caicos a popular dog adoption spot, so you may end up finding a lot more than exquisite Caribbean charm-a new family member and lifetime friend.

Let's just hope that as tourism continues to sweep a place, this hidden string of gems will stay just as beautifully unrefined for years to come.
