Indonesia OVERVIEW
The sleeping giant of the southeastern part of the continent, Indonesia ripples across the Equator for almost 5,000 kilometers, dotting the Pacific waters with more than 17,000 thousands islands inhabited by 230 million people. This fourth most populous country of the globe, is home to over a 100 of ethnic groups and has the highest number of Muslim worshippers. The country markets itself as the ultimate in diversity and with such a vibrant spin of cultures and landscapes, one finds the pitch impossible to defy.
Indonesia is laden with character and contrast. Layers of them, to be precise. While the cities are under ongoing construction, climbing up the sky with cutting-edge skyscrapers, swarming population and hi-tech gadgetry, most of the archipelago remains untouched. And it is here where you get enchanted with the unsurpassed vistas and a spicy hotchpotch of scents and colors. Indonesia has it all to have you speechless and truly smitten - jungle Sumatra teeming with wildlife and tribes, idyllic Bali of top notch resorts, sarong-clad people and sunsets of legendary glory and volcanic Java to marvel you with Oceanic rice paddies and ancient sultanates. And there's more, much more. The entrancing Sea Gardens of Suwalesi, Komodo dragons, Buddhist temples revealing architectural treasures hidden somewhere in the dense forests and the dramatically landscaped gorges of Papua. No holiday is long enough to embrace it.
The adventurous travelers will surely have a time of their lives diving into the archipelago's natural beauty and so will the city explorers heading for Jakarta, Indonesia's capital and a Pandora box of both a choking city plan and dingy slums mixed with throbbing nightlife, sky-high architecture and the country's cultural and intellectual crème de la crème. You will instantly either love it or hate it but before you go check news updates as terrorist threats have not been discontinued. Whichever destination you choose, Indonesia will prove its diversity and unparalleled charm.
