Saint Barthélemy Travel Guide

Saint Barthélemy

Saint Barthélemy OVERVIEW

They say good things come in small packages, and truer words couldn't be spoken about the celeb vacation hot spot of St. Barths. With the status of world's prime location for swimsuit shots and Victoria's Secret Angels curving their bodies on the Caribbean shore, where the whitest of sands meets the most incredible shade of blue, this tiny French collectivity perpetually sees its hotness quotient hit the zenith. And we're not talking about the weather.

Exclusive, secluded, and seductive, it's no wonder that St. Barths is so popular with

crème de la crème.

The streets spanning off Gustavia harbor's promenade are sprinkled with gourmet restaurants, high-end boutiques, and all sorts of luxury services, but you may well bump into someone super-famous browsing for French or Italian labels in a duty-free designer shop or strolling incognito along Lovely Shell Beach at sunset.

St Barths is a great heart in a small body, and despite its popularity with the high-muck-a-mucks , you'll have no trouble making it your own. Outside the glitzy capital, it's still a place of intact natural splendor featuring a range of magnificent peaks, tranquil bays, a dozen villages, and solitary cottages that make you feel as if you were in the heart of Normandy. Be sure to visit the two-street fishing village of Corossol, where tradition-bound women still wear their starched white bonnets.

There is the St. Barths on which people live- proud and hard-working- and the St. Barths on which people vacation- easy going and wealthy. On many Saturday nights, as the celebs sip their mind-altering drinks in ear-shattering clubs, local folk gather at the A.J.O.E. tennis court in Lorient to watch a movie projected on a gigantic concrete wall.
