Wallis and Futuna Travel Guide

Wallis and Futuna

Wallis and Futuna OVERVIEW

Each with a fair share of rabbits in the hat, Wallis and Futuna would most obviously vie for your attention ... if they only cared for it. As self-governing overseas territories of France, with an undisturbed flow of subsidies and costs of living as high as can be, the two don't bother to hype up their virtues for at least three reasons. First off, they don't need your money. Secondly, the people are all too thankful for being able to live off planting manioc rather than wait on tourists in sprawling resorts. Finally, even if larger audiences learned about the wonderland of lagoons off Wallis and Futuna, the mystery of Lake Lalolalo, and the heavenly oblivion of uninhabited Alofi, exorbitant airfares and splurge-only accommodations would keep them off anyway. So why even get a penchant for it? Unless you are loaded or a French official, chances are slim you're going to set foot on this far-flung land in the nearest future.
