Malaysia OVERVIEW
Malay tribesmen narrate startling stories of Orang Bunian, supernatural beings resembling humans and inhabiting deep forests, where they are said to often lead visitors astray. Should jungle trekkers mistakingly enter their village, they might be lost to the outside world for a while, or even forever. But it's just a tale, isn't it?
Malaysia has a unique brain-teasing quality and ability to affect all senses. It makes your mouth water with oriental tastes, dazzles with multitude of color, baffles with infinite dialects and fascinates with ethnic splendor. Here cities are adorned with jewels of Islamic architecture, the oldest rainforests in the world oppress with heat, Petronas Towers epitomize rapid economic growth, a wreath of picturesque islands allures with snorkeling galore, and indigenous legends of myriad sub-ethnic groups are told around the campfire.
Once in Kuala Lumpur, you'll find plenty of things to get busy with, but it's the Batu Caves (13 kilometers north) that will leave you speechless. The impression of the Hindu shrines can only be rivaled by the collective screams of apes swinging on thick branches and tourists doing the canopy walk 25 meters above the ground. Emotions of that sort call for a settling cup of tea at the rolling plantations of Cameron Highlands. Appeased and invigorated, head for mystical Borneo to climb massive Mt Kinabalu, spend less than a dollar to watch orangutans feed, and smell the largest flower on earth (though a doubtful pleasure). Top it off with a visit to the Iban village and recall the image whenever you think you're suffering discomfort. Mind you, never enter the tribe's long houses without invitation as they are known for strict etiquette, not to mention headhunting.
That's about how much we can disclose. Hope you are sufficiently tempted to discover more on your own.
